By 2026, we are looking to have a facility. For this, we need an in-kind donation of 2+ acres in Stuart, Hobe Sound, or Palm City and a financial sponsor for a facility. Arthur went in for his FHO surgery today. We are so lucky that we have such an amazing foster that not only took care of him the last month while we were waiting for the procedure, but will continue to take care of him post-op and until we find him a furever home. Animal activists are pushing for Dexter’s Law (HB 255) in the upcoming Florida legislative session in honor of Dexter, a dog tragically found decapitated shortly after being adopted. His brutal death has sparked a movement to strengthen Florida’s animal cruelty laws and increase penalties for those who harm domestic animals.

As a political science graduate, I believe it’s crucial to read and understand the full text of any bill before supporting it. I encourage you to read HB 255 to learn how this bill will better protect animals like Dexter from abuse.

Arthur’s wounds are sadly not healing well. Arthur had been hit by a car prior to being brought to and then getting deadlined by PBCACC. In addition to the hip dislocation with a failed closed reduction, he had road rash and other injuries. His other injuries led to him getting parts of 2 toes removed. Unfortunately, one of the toes that didn’t get operated on is healing poorly and our vet may have to remove it entirely.

We are trying to prevent that in the meantime, but he will be seen in 2 weeks and receive the final decision on whether or not he can keep the toe.

Welcome Arthur (#А2221699), our first save of 2025!

Arthur found himself on the PBCACC euthanasia list after being hit by a car. He was brought to an animal hospital, where he was either surrendered or abandoned, and then transferred to ACC.

Arthur has road rash on his legs and a hip dislocation that cannot go back in. Because of this, he needs to see an orthopedic surgeon for a FHO (Femoral Head Osteotomy) consult.

Luckily, an amazing woman came forward to sponsor his orthopedic medical. Without a medical sponsor, we wouldn’t have had the funds or resources to save his life.

We also couldn’t save him without Vicky from @bigmaxandfriends, who is graciously opening her heart and home to foster Arthur through his treatment. Fostering saves lives!

We still NEED help covering the rest of his care. This includes food, supplies, gas for transporting him to and from appts, bandages, medicines for his wounds, and anything else he needs while in foster. The bill for supplies and care for just one dog comes to about $110/month!

So 2024 was our first full year operating as not just a nonprofit, but as a dog rescue. To say I am humbled would be an understatement. In the last 365 days, we saved 57 dogs. 57 DOGS! All of the hard work from our volunteers and fosters, our adopters, and every single dollar donated by our amazing supporters helped save 57 lives.

2024 was not an easy year. We failed some but we learned a lot and grew immensely as an organization. We had our first pregnant pup and rescue litter, our first cardiac case, our first orthopedic case, and so much more. We learned a lot about dog behavior so we can better match dogs with adopters. We now have 4 volunteer foster & adoption coordinators. Our Board of Directors grew by 3 wonderful people, and we co-started a program at PBCACC to help save dogs from death-row.

We couldn’t have even saved 1 dog without the support of all of you. I hope you look in the mirror today and know that you helped us save 57 lives.

Mary just left the cardiologist and we are unfortunately leaving with bad news…

So when we pulled Mary from the shelter, she just had surgery to remove a MCT (mass cell tumor). We brought her to our vet 2 weeks later for suture removal where our Dr. found a Grade III Heart Murmur. The severity had him referring us to a specialist.

The specialist did a series of tests and found that she has Degenerative Valve Disease (DVD) with a severe left atrial enlargement and a cordial rupture. This puts her at the cusp of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and means she has to be on 3 medications to try to prevent it.

Our little Mary girl is only estimated to be 4ish years old, which is extra devastating since it will alter her lifestyle. She will no longer be allowed to run off leash and will always be under a magnifying glass. She will have to regularly get bloodwork and do repeat heart tests every 4-6 months.

Today’s visit was $1,017 and our rescue fund is running dangerously low. While we are beyond grateful for rescuing Mary, not knowing she has a heart murmur and this disease led to us being extremely unprepared financially.

Meet Milo! We have recently taken Milo on and are looking for an amazing furever home for him.

Milo is a 3 year old American Bulldog/Pittie mix who found himself in the middle of a family who could no longer care for him. They did what was best for him and turned him over to Rescue so that he could begin the new adventure of finding his forever family.

Milo is ALL puppy and spent a lot of time in a crate so everything is new to him. Car rides, rules, and new people, all of which is a lot and a little scary. Milo is doing great learning manners and new rules of the foster house. He is cat- friendly and female-dog-friendly. It is taking him some time to warm up to the male dogs in the house, and Milo would thrive with a fur sister in his new forever home! He loves to be in the same room as his person and he loves to chase his tail in circles. He is the sweetest thing once he knows you and would do best in a home that doesn’t have a ton of strangers coming through.

Milo is fully vetted, heartworm neg, neutered, and has recently had 3 year vaccines. Birthday, June 18th, 2021. Crate trained and house broken!

We are looking for a special family for him that will give him the love, space, and patience he needs to open up and be his goofy self!

Tom & Jeri Pupdate!

A few months ago we were asked to help with 2 stray puppies that were on the brink of getting hit by cars in busy Miami. We had them vetted right away which showed they were covered in ticks, had anemia, were filled with worms, and in overall poor health. We drove down to Miami to rescue them and put them in foster homes where they got lots of love and completed their treatments. They are now about 7 months old and living their best lives in their furever homes!

Also, Jeri’s mama did a DNA test which showed that the pups are German Shepherd, Cattle Dog, Pittie, Chihuahua mixes! How cool is that?!

We URGENTLY need a foster for sweet Bumble! We brought her to a foster home right from the shelter last night, but unfortunately, the foster set her up for failure. The foster did not listen to our protocols which caused Bumble to get into a tiff with her dog. There were no injuries. We never recommend putting two dogs together without a proper intro and without being in a neutral zone. This is in all of our protocols and in our foster agreement.

Bumble IS dog-friendly, but it’s important to give rescue dogs their 3 days of decompression. She even participated in playgroups at the shelter!

Bumble is now in boarding with the amazing @totallyfetchanimalrescue while she waits for another foster home. Poor baby didn’t even get 18hrs to decompress before the first foster dropped her off at boarding.

Bumble is dog-friendly with proper intros, kid-friendly, and overall VERY sweet and affectionate. We cover everything for our fosters so you don’t pay anything out of pocket. Remember, fostering saves lives!

Rescued! Bumble 🐝

Today we saved Bumble from the PBCACC euthanasia list. She was deadlined due to a skin condition that is very curable. She was brought to the shelter months ago in poor condition, underweight and missing half of her fur. Then, she was adopted and surrendered when her adopters moved..

Luckily, a foster stepped up to save Bumble’s life. Since we are a foster-based rescue and don’t have a facility (yet!), we cannot save any dogs without a foster.

Unfortunately, we spoke a little too soon and Pumpkin’s foster-to-adopt did not work out. While Pumpkin did AMAZING with the kids, dog, and cat in the home, the cat got too stressed out with the change and started to decline. The family thought it was best to not adopt Pumpkin for the sake of their cat.

Pumpkin is now available for adoption again! She is 7 months old, housebroken, dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and kid-friendly. She’s an amazing puppy that loves to play, go for walks, and take naps on the couch. She knows a few basic commands and is all around an amazing puppy! Pumpkin is spayed, healthy, and UTD on vaccines. She is expected to get to about 50-55lbs.

Pumpkin and Tayta (renamed Daisy) were both surrendered at the beginning of Nov. While Pumpkin is doing well in her foster to adopt home, we have been fostering Daisy at our house.

She has always been the most fearful of Poppy’s babies and she got severely dependent on Pumpkin. Note that she was dependent, not bonded, but we were still unsure how the separation would go. We figured that if all went well with separating them, we would foster Daisy here, where she spent the first 2.5 months of her life.

While Daisy has grown immensely, especially in becoming her own dog with her own personality, she still struggles with fear. She has extreme stranger danger and poor manners.

Poppy is being good mama and teaching her a lot and she’s getting to spend a lot of time with 2 other dogs in the house. Daisy needs a lot of work and we are grateful for the opportunity to be able to work with her here.

There are so many reasons to be thankful today, including family, friends, my fur babies, and life itself, but today I want to highlight one in particular.

Mary is doing well decompressing in foster, but she was just diagnosed with a Grade III Heart Murmur by our vet. She has an appointment made with a cardiologist at the end of December that we really need to raise funds for.
